The I.T. Co. came over from the United Kingdom and was based in Brooklyn, N.Y. in the late 1880's.
These "ideal heads" are a rare design with only a few currently still installed as intended, as fireplace tiles.
You can view more info by looking for International Tile Company. There is an article on their rarity and current installation. They can be viewed at the Reynolds Mansion B&B in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania in a few of the prestigious rooms where fireplaces are located. There are also samples of their tile designs for public viewing at the Brooklyn Museum in N.Y.
These are glazed transferware tiles all measuring 6" inches by 6" inches square and about 1/2" thick. Raised details on each head makes each tile 3D.
Raised makers marks and locations are on the back of each tile. There are 5 total tiles with one having a 2 1/2" chip - which can be filled in for repair.
